Rihanna, who was born in Saint Michael and grew up in Bridgetown, Barbados became an audition for Evan Rogers, an American record producer. He invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. After signing with Def Jam in 2005, she quickly gained attention with the release of her debut two studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005) and A Girl Like Me (2006), both of which were in the style of Caribbean music, and both reached the top ten on the US Billboard 200 chart. The third album of Rihanna, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) was a mix of elements of dance music and established her status as a sex symbol in the music industry. Rihanna received her first Grammy Award for "Umbrella" the chart-topping track that launched Rihanna to international stardom. The next three studio albums, Rated R (2010) and Loud (2010) and Talk That Talk (2011), continued her mix of R&B and pop. Unapologetic (2012) was her first Billboard 200 top-ten album. The albums spawned a string of chart-topping singles such as "Rude Boy", "Only Girl (In the World)", "What's My Name? ", "S&M", “We Found Love” "Where Have You Been” and "Diamonds". Anti (2016) was her eighth album. It showed her new creative control after she left Def Jam. It became her second US top-selling album and featured the chart-topping single "Work". Rihanna has been in close contact with many artists during her music career. With sales of more than 250 million records across the globe, Rihanna is the second-best-selling female musician of all time. She has had a number one and 31 top ten singles in the US as well as a top ten single in the UK with 30 entries. She has received nine Grammy Awards, thirteen American Music Awards (including Icon Award), 12 Billboard Music Awards and six Guinness World Records. She also received the NAACP's President's Award. Time identified her as one of the top 100 influential people worldwide in 2012, 2018, and 2019. Forbes ranked her among the top ten celebrities with the highest earnings in both 2012 and 2014.
